On November 10, 2024, YES hosted its monthly meeting at the Plano Recreation Center, providing members with opportunities for networking, learning, and creative engagement. The event began with a networking session where club members and officers reconnected and welcomed new faces, creating a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
YES President Sally Wang gave the opening remarks before passing it on to Club officer Eric, who introduced the speaker, Dr. Gary Gerlacher. He is a distinguished doctor, medical entrepreneur, and author of medical thrillers. He has founded and led several medical ventures, including Brave Care and Little Star Pediatric Urgent Care, and served as Vice President of Business Development at PM Pediatrics. Recently, he expanded into writing, with his medical thriller Faulty Bloodline achieving notable success, reaching number five on Amazon's Medical Thrillers Best Seller list. In his talk, Dr. Gerlacher shared insights on navigating multiple career paths, encouraging students to explore diverse interests. Dr. Gerlacher offered YES members insightful advice to guide their professional journeys, such as emphasizing the importance of seeking out mentors on LinkedIn or through community connections to gain perspective and support. He also encouraged students to address real-world challenges with practical solutions and build networks of skilled individuals to support growth. He emphasized the importance of listening, focusing resources on top performers, and hiring selectively to maintain a high-achieving team.
Following Dr. Gerlacher’s insightful presentation, members enjoyed a brief break before Alan and Vivian took the stage to introduce the iLEAD program, an initiative designed to deepen members’ knowledge in leadership and entrepreneurship. They discussed the program's unique curriculum, highlighting the benefits of gaining practical skills, building professional networks, and preparing for future entrepreneurial endeavors. Afterward, Iris and Chris shared their recent experiences participating in the Frisco 5K Frisco Arts Walk and Run, engaging members in a discussion about the community involvement that was involved.
The meeting wrapped up with a Thanksgiving card-making activity that was introduced by Sophia Li. Members were given time to craft heartfelt cards for seniors, allowing them to share gratitude and appreciation. Overall, the November meeting was an inspiring blend of learning and community-building, leaving members with new knowledge and strengthened connections. The meeting's positive energy and valuable insights represented YES’s dedication to fostering leadership and a supportive environment for its members.
