On the beautiful afternoon of September 7th, Flag Pole Hill Park in Dallas buzzes with the sounds and sights of the first annual mid-autumn Asian heritage celebration, graciously organized by the Dallas Police Department. After a long and hot summer, the afternoon proved to be welcoming and cool — perfect for the vibrant activities and blend of cultures planned for the event. Altogether, it was meant to be about bringing the community together to appreciate and honor Asian heritage through cultural activities, dance, food, and games, highlighted most importantly by the Youth Entrepreneur Society (YES) Orchestra.
Formed only last November, the YES Orchestra has grown to become known for its talented young performers and lively music. It had performed at community events and YES’s gatherings, embodying the organization’s core dedication to community service. After a quick introduction from Allen Zhang, the orchestra once again embarks on a thrilling performance, their remarkable harmony and inspiring talent invoking palpable zeal among the awestruck audience. They skillfully combine Eastern and Western musical classics as Teresa Teng's The Moon Represents My Heart (月亮代表我的心) gives a tender, nostalgic tune, celebrating Chinese heritage, while Carlos Gardel's tango piece Por una Cabeza injects energy into the performance. By its conclusion, the audience erupts in praise and applause, highlighting the indisputable splendor of the performance and the astounding musical gift of the YES Orchestra.
Besides the brilliant performance by the orchestra, other cultural events were also held in celebration of the mid-autumn festival. Traditional dances, authentic Asian cuisines, and interactive games formed part of a comprehensive cultural experience for all present.
Ultimately, the performance of the YES Orchestra at the mid-autumn Asian Heritage celebration was incredibly successful. The music moved beyond cultures, touched hearts, and left a lifetime memory among the attendees — indeed a true testimony to one of the core values of the YES family. From all members of our community, we would like to give a final thanks to all the incredible members of the YES orchestra who made this event truly great!
